RW 1420 RAILGEAR |
|
The following information is furnished to establish the proper
chassis requirements for DMF RW 1420 RAILROADERS guidewheels.
It is not intended to be a truck specification sheet. Consult
with your truck equipment dealer to assure that all equipment
will operate safely with the chassis you are ordering.
The DMF RW 1420 guidewheel system is intended for use only with
DRW vehicles with GVWR's of up to 33,000 pounds. All brackets
and structural members are constructed of steel; but, each guidewheel
set weights less than 1,550 pounds (932 pounds front, 600 pounds
rear). Front and rear guidewheel units bolt onto truck frame using
only hand tools and are designed to minimize mounting space required.
Front bumpers may require an extension. Rear units mount below
the top-of-frame line and directly behind the chassis spring hangers.
On standard applications, the inside rear dual vehicle tires ride
on the rail. Front tires are lifted clear of the rail and front
vehicle weight is directed through the front vehicle suspension
to the guidewheels using a downsized version of the patented DMF
Railroader model RW 1630 guidewheel system. DMF RW 1420 front
guidewheels utilize an overcenter design and are equipped with
mechanical safety pin-offs in the highway position.
The rear DMF RW 1420 guidewheels are a downsized version of the
RW 1630 which allow the rear railgear to articulate from side-to-side
for easier rail access. Please note, safety pin-offs are provided
in both the rail and highway modes. All spindles are machined
from high strength steel and fitted with heavy-duty tapered roller
bearings. All guidewheels are machined from steel castings. Railwheel
brakes, derail skids, wide and narrow gauges are available as
an option.

|
FRONT |
--Attached to front vehicle springs.
--Ground clearance retracted: 10". |
|
REAR |
--Installation is to vehicle frame (bolted and clamped) below
the top-of-frame line and directly behind the spring hangers.
--Ground clearance retracted: 10". |
|
BRAKES |
| Air-actuated or hydraulic external shoe, actuated by vehicle brake
pedal operation. |
|
CAPACITY |
| 20,000 pounds per guidewheel axle @ 20 MPH. |

14" wheels per axle with two Timken tapered roller bearings per
wheel. |
|
SUSPENSION |
| Front uses front vehicle suspension. Rear acts as a rigid member
between the rail and frame. |
|
GAUGE |
| 56 1/2" standard. Other gauges available as an option. |
|
POSITION LOCKS |
| Front: design is fail safe in rail mode. Support is through overcenter
design and welded stops. Mechanical safety pin-offs are provided
for rail and highway positions on rear. |
|
HYDRAULICS |
--Typical requirements: 5 GMP @ 2,000 PSI.
--Power unit: Suitable pump / pto or power unit.
--Valves: Control valves are located at each assembly.
--Hose and fittings: SAE 100 R1, JIC swivel ends.
--Cylinders: Manufactured by DMF. |

OPERATION |
|
After the operator aligns the rear tires with rail, he removes
safety pin-offs from each side of the rear assembly. With the
hydraulic system engaged, the valve is spooled and the wheels
are lowered into position. The rear mechanism is articulated to
ease getting the rear-end on the rail. The safety pin-off is reinstalled.
The front end is aligned with the rail and the procedure is repeated
using the front mounted control valve for the front guidewheels.
The front suspension feature of the DMF RW 1420 guidewheel is
designed to allow the vehicle suspension to carry the load and
accommodate for rail irregularities and curves. |
|
BRAKES |
| A toggle switch on the vehicle instrument panel enables the guidewheel
brakes. when the operator depresses the vehicle brake pedal, the
guidewheel brakes are activated. an air-protection valve is provided
in the kit to protect the vehicles air system. |
|
STEERING WHEEL LOCK |
| The steering wheel lock is part of the brake assembly as in the
RW 1630 gear. |
